It makes little sense, very little, to get yourself joining a church or a group of people for discipleship and training and you end up choosing meetings you’d want to attend.
There are many who want to be discipled “behind the scenes”…
They don’t want to be noticed as students. You’d often find such cherry pick or choose what meetings suit them or their desire and when to show up or what kind of instruction to adhere to.
They’d choose when to respond and what type of messages to respond to…
Such have it all figured out in their minds –
“I know what I want!”
“I know what is best for me!”
Jesus taught his disciples a number of things you’d hardly find him teach the crowd…
You’d find him going to pray when there’s no crowd, often times alone. Other rare times with Peter, James and John.
It was through their relationship with him that we are enriched with the true words of Jesus in their writings.
Yet with the crowd, you’ll often find him lay emphasis on the general (salvation and repentance).
When He sat with his disciples, He’d tell Peter…
“Feed my sheep.”
These were instructions vital for Peter’s ministry. He won’t get such in the crowd.
Also, in the crowd, he’d pray for several others but with his disciples he taught them how to pray.
Jesus and other disciples – Peter, James, and John, went to pray (the Mount of Transfiguration).
It was on this mountain, Jesus’s countenance changed.
The prophets Moses and Elijah showed up.
They saw this experience. Why?
Because they were with Him when the crowd was away!
There are just some things, only true disciples experience, receive and walk in. Doesn’t come by being in the crowd, or being a spectator.
If you truly believe that it is the Lord who ordered your steps here, then you must know that God wants you to be a part of everything that is done here.
Except of course, you just strayed in and you have no clue what discipleship is about.
There’s a deliberateness you must have in your commitment, knowing that the Lord brought you here for a reason and such a time as this.
The lack of this will only make you “part of the number” while remaining grossly deficient of the training the Lord sent you here to receive.
Whatever is done, you should do in all fervency!
If you’re here and there’s an ongoing activity, don’t sit back and just watch or spectate. Get on!
Be actively involved!
That’s being spiritually intelligent!
You ought to take it personal.
But to show no feeling or enthusiasm or a lackadaisical approach to this shows that you see yourself as a stray or a stranger.
Sessions, meetings & instructions won’t always be convenient, but it’s for your profiting.
Discipleship is rigorous and inconvenient.
And whatever it takes, we must be ready to give it.
Just look around you…
See how others are stretching themselves to be trained through the inconvenience…
You can do same!
Take things personal here!
Give yourself to discipleship and don’t hold back. You’ll be much better if you do .
